Great Loop boaters hit the road

Our intentions after selling our boat "As You Wish" once we completed the Great Loop was to quickly buy another boat that would be more suitable as a longer term liveaboard. Unfortunately, this Covid-19 pandemic sent both the RV and boat market into overdrive as people looked for alternative activities they could do with their families and friends in a more isolated manner. Boat sales went through the roof and inventory became almost non-existent for decent boats. The only things we seemed to find were either not in suitable condition or were overpriced as owners were trying to cash in on a tight market. We at least have narrowed our search to pilothouse boats in the 50' range. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the right one to come on the market and jump on it before someone else. In the interim, so that we don't drive ourselves crazy, we've decided to take a road trip and circumnavigate the United States. Specifically, we'll be going west using as much of old Route 66 as we can hit. Return trip route is still undecided at this time. Transportation is rather mundane. Years ago we had talked about getting an RV after completing the loop and traveling the country. Not happening for this trip. Instead we'll be using Martha's VW Jetta wagon. Washed and waxed, oil changed, tires rotated and balanced. Looks like we'll be ready to pack up and hit the road in a few days.
